Flashing my off-white smile to the world I wonder if they can see past it. The big grin they see plastered on my face does no justice to the teeth I am secretly clenching. The rosiness they see at the edge of my smile is mistaken for a shy blush. My anger has its redness concealed without even trying. The sheen in my eyes is not sparkle but tears refusing to trickle.
I am happy, just like they believe but it’s not complete. It’s an incomplete happiness for an incomplete soul.
I am only half happy because I am halved…
